takeshi nakayoshi

These paintings are the result of my life searching process to get to something I or people have never seen before.

Artist as a young man asked for original voice which I realized did not have, so from this point on I started from zero to find my own original voice.  That was a few decades ago.  I was under Diebenkorn’s influence due to thin layering upon transparent gestural strokes which I found myself fascinated and thought it was important for the destiny of my future painting. It was also very difficult to get away from his influence for a few decades. I first combined my investigation with Latin flavored color since I was very much preferred Latin color.  My formula was LATIN X ABSTRACT = Takeshi Nakayoshi. Then on the last decade I thought about who influenced Diebenkorn in a first place, Matisse study became a key to get deeper to discover myself.

Matisse was influenced by Cezanne which became my art lineage. What prompted me was boiling down to color and form as image of essence.  Color of oil can extend far beyond imagination as we all witnessed emergence of Impressionists, as it was surprise for the period of their era. That new color was physically altering concept of color, contrasted to conventional taste of the period. It made me think such innovation is possible for altering concept of reality.

I was searching how to manipulate my color and increasingly interested on the viscosity of color experimenting with different agents to discover different effects, learning to examine what will do to the physical color, consequently feeling effects to the emotion.

When I got to this point which I call it UNERISM, uneru, in Japanese means roaring wave which I felt first time in my life strong emotional response from myself and rational conviction on I can deliver, originality of my own. Now I met with myself first time in life.
